Brilliant Matte Dispersion Effects in Photoshop

Custom brushes can often be utilized on top of existing stock images to create a matte dispersion effect, where the vibrancy of the original stock is enhanced, while adding artistic flair and visual interest using dispersion. It helps take standard stock images and can be used to create melting effects, shattering effects, and even disappearing effects.

In this tutorial, you’ll be taken through, step by step, the creation of some custom brushes, and application of them to a stock image to create a matte dispersion effect. You’ll learn how to create and save brushes, utilize complementary colors, and manipulate stock images for a visually stunning final result.

Create a Cosmic XBOX using Custom Brushes

Space is one of the common environments used in design artworks. It signifies futuristic, high-tech, unknown beauty, and provides an excellent canvas on which to design. The contrast between light and dark is easily done against the void of space, and a variety of elements are available for design.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create some custom line brushes, and then apply them to a subject to create a cosmic design. The line brushes, combined with some simple techniques in Photoshop, give the image a sense of motion and help bring the design together.

The Apple iPhone was one of the revolutionary devices of the new millennium. Apple’s overall brand recovery and rebuilding process has been stunning, charging back onto the market after losing significant market share to Microsoft, IBM and other technology giants during the 1990′s. Part of the reason for Apple’s success has been excellent advertising and branding.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to design a tropical underwater iPhone advertisement, complete with clownfish, starfish, and bubbles. You’ll learn how to isolate a variety of stock images, using custom brushes, extraction methods, and image manipulations. You’ll also see how to visually compose an image for maximum effect.

Omega Code is a band that ran a massive design contest to create interest in their music, by allowing designers to use their unique triangle logo and compete to win the contest. Many of the Omega Code posters are masterful works of art, and range from steampunk to retro space. One style that wasn’t seen, however, was an underwater take on the Omega Code.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn step by step how to create a brilliant 3D shatter triangle effect, and then combine it with a background and familiar underwater elements to create a brilliant finished work. Utilizing blending modes in Adobe Photoshop is one of the essential skills for any designer. They not only allow manipulation and blending of images, they also can lead to spectacular visual effects in a design.
