Create a Dramatic Urban Raining Composition with 3D Elements

Urban scenes can be used to create dramatic works of digital art. The grunge feel of graffiti, concrete and the darker textures can result in great environments for a design or artwork. Perhaps typified by movies like Sin City, the grayscales of urban environments, particularly when combined with rain, are captivating.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to take some stock photos and create a dramatic urban environment, complete with rain, and then build a design composition around it using some 3D elements. You’ll learn how to create a nice raining effect, and how to use urban styles to enhance your work.

Create a Fantastic Environmental Awareness Composition

In the ongoing environmental disaster caused by the British Petroleum oil spill, one of the largest areas of promotional artwork and awareness has been for the environment and for the eco-friendly movement. Although it has been an ongoing trend for years, the recent oil spill has led to a resurgence in concerns over oil drilling across the world.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a fantastic environmental awareness composition that fits a specific theme, namely the BP oil spill. You’ll learn how to develop a plan of attack for the image, and then combine various stocks to create an environment, then populate it with various sea creatures, then finally you’ll learn how to create the illusion of an oil spill using stock images and painting techniques.

Brilliant Matte Dispersion Effects in Photoshop

Custom brushes can often be utilized on top of existing stock images to create a matte dispersion effect, where the vibrancy of the original stock is enhanced, while adding artistic flair and visual interest using dispersion. It helps take standard stock images and can be used to create melting effects, shattering effects, and even disappearing effects.

In this tutorial, you’ll be taken through, step by step, the creation of some custom brushes, and application of them to a stock image to create a matte dispersion effect. You’ll learn how to create and save brushes, utilize complementary colors, and manipulate stock images for a visually stunning final result.

The extra depth dimension allows images to visually pop from the page, and provide excellent building blocks for development of an image. A variety of tools can be used to create them, but creation of 3D text effects often requires significant time, patience, and knowledge.

In this tutorial, Joe Moore will teach you step by step how to render beautiful and visually sharp 3d text in 3D Studio Max, render it using Mental Ray, and then combine it with additional visual elements to create an atmospheric, nature inspired 3D text composition using Photoshop.
